Dale Cohen Architects are working closely with Moira Shire Council as lead architect on the new Cobram Library & Learning Centre.
The proposed Library is intended as a distinctive & engaging new civic hub. The design embraces emerging technology, accessibility & promotes flexible learning environments across all ages.
Located on the site of the existing Civic Centre, the redevelopment contains varied and different sized library components including informal reading areas, children’s areas, computer areas and technology areas. The building design contains ‘abstract’ punctuations to the perimeter while still promoting a direct and central pathway through the building. Attention has been given to the provision of private ‘break out’ spaces & flexible community group areas.
A dynamic, curvilinear timber battened screen has been designed to the exterior – enabling filtered light to the internal spaces within & enhancing presentation to the township. The design language is reminiscent of the popular Murray landscapes that embodies and celebrates the idea of a ‘local’ library – conscious of its place & identity to the community.
